KEM HOSPITAL RESEARCH CENTRE, PABAL
Objectives:
Empowerment of economically weak rural women and girls at the grass root level.
In order to educate women and girls professionally, following activities are being conducted.
1. Home Nursing.
2. Food Processing and quantity cooking
3. Tailoring
4. Electrical Wireman (Male)
5. Public Health Program
Dr. Mrs. Usha Krishna and Dr. Kurus Coyaji very actively supported the joint venture of K.E.M. Hospital Research Centre, Pune and Larsen and Toubro Public Charitable Trust, Mumbai to start training courses from 13th June 2009. The Women's Development Training Centre at Pabal, a dream of Late Dr. Banoo J. Coyaji, came true.


Motivation to encourage women and girls for enrollment was achieved by:-
- Meeting Self Help Groups, Community leaders, and Panchayat Members.
- Information given on one to one basis through handbills, in Pabal and surrounding hamlets
- Community Welfare Workers (CWW) motivate girls and women for enrollment.
Criteria for Enrollment:
- Age limit : 18 to 45 years
- Education : 9th pass or fail
Syllabus:
A ) Home Nursing :
Hygiene, First Aid, Surgical Nursing, Anatomy, Medical Nursing, Nursing Arts, Nutrition, Midwifery and family planning, Pediatric Nursing, Personality development.
B) Food Processing and Quantity Cooking :
Food and its Quality, Food processing, Food purchase and preservation, Cleanliness and safety, Management of Unit and Personality development.
C) Tailoring :
Introduction of sewing machine. Measurement cutting and stitching of blouses, Punjabi dresses, chudidar with fashionable neck design.
D) Electrical Wireman :
Introduction of trade, tools & equipment. Documentation. Materials. Testing. Safety. Workshop practice. Wire termination & Joints. Cable glanding, Termination Lug and soldering. Basic wiring(PVC). Basic wiring(MS). Basic wiring(Concealed type). Termination & fault finding in construction M/c & fittings. Simple control circuit. Making of earth pit. Testing of circuits. Introduction to trade on job site. Revision. Final testing & evaluation.
Methods of teaching :
- We give theory and practical training for all the courses, along with two months Hospital Practical Training for Home Nursing.
- At the end of the course Final examinations are conducted and certificates distributed to successful trainees.

Utilization of Prof. Yamato Kawakami Foundation Fund
A) Scholarship to 15 poor & needy girls from 5th to 10th standard from Pabal area for purchasing educational material such as school uniform, notebooks, compass box etc. since 1993.
B) Zero interest loan for Sewing machine, goat rearing, dairy, bangles selling at weekly bazaar for poor women from 1993. More than 1000 women has benefitted through this fund.

Utilization of Late Dr. Sarah Rao Fund
A) Generous donation for Late Dr. Sarah Rao Multipurpose Hall construction.
B) Scholarship to 10 to 15 poor & needy girls from Science girl students from Pabal area for purchasing educational material.
C) Tailoring training to rural poor and needy women and girls.

Utilization of Late Dr. V. N. Rao Fund
A) Rubella Vaccination camps.
B) Course fee will be paid for four or five poor and needy girls for MS-CIT course.
C) Decided to pay scholarship to 15 poor & needy girls from 5th to 10th standard from Pabal area for purchasing educational material such as school uniform, notebooks, compass box etc.
D) To conduct Small duration Courses like Mehandi, Rangoli etc. once or twice in Pabal area.
